November 2014 Photo Scavenger Hunt

It comes round to the scavenger hunt so quickly; here we are for another month!

N is for?
Night time niches

12 pm
It was really about 3:30 when I took this, so don't believe everything!

People
I liked the different coloured jackets of these people on Ilkley Moor when I was there at the beginning of the month

Look back

Joy is
Simple things like a steely blue sky and the sunshine at the same time

Funny
I didn't come across anything funny, so this is one from the archives of my daughter doing her impression of Cousin It

Something you found
I found this in the undergrowth while out walking, and thought it was just a head off a doll, but on closer inspection I saw that it bizarrely has feet!   I'm guessing that a dog dropped it...

Whatever you please

October 2014 Photo Scavenger Hunt

I can't believe the last time I posted was for last month's scavenger hunt!
I'm sorry about that, but here are my interpretations for this month

O is for?
Only One Orange Smartie
I'll let you into a secret....
When my kids were little I would see their Grandad most weeks and he would give me a tube of Smarties for each of them.   After a few years my daughter remarked that there were orange Smarties pictured on the tube but there were never any in them.
Erm... that was because I'd eaten all the orange ones before I passed them over!
For anyone who hasn't had Smarties, all the other colours are just chocolate inside, but the orange ones are actually orange flavoured chocolate and I love 'em!

6pm

Morning
Last week I went to Denby Dale with my daughter and part of the walk was at the side of the Kirklees narrow gauge railway.  We were on a bridge when one of the little steam trains came along.

You probably can't tell how small it is from that photo so here's a closer one with the driver waving to us

Something you bought
A bunch of wallflower plants sold the traditional way wrapped in newspaper

Light
at the end of the tunnel

Close up
if you don't know what it is, I'll put a photo of the whole thing at the end

Favourite
I walk past a house sometimes and there are usually peacocks on the roof of the car, so I guess it's their favourite place to be

Lunch
A smoothie.  And I'd like to sing the praises of Jamie Oliver here, because if I hadn't seen one of his programmes recently, I would never have known that frozen spinach existed.   I have to say it's the best thing since sliced bread!  It's frozen into balls that you can add to all sorts of dishes like stews and curries.
My favourite thing to do with it though, is put a couple in a smoothie.   I put them in the blender first with some hot water and leave them for a few minutes to thaw before adding whatever else I'm using.  This one has also got a banana, a small avocado, oats, apple juice and milk and it's delicious (you can't taste the spinach).

Childhood
I really struggled thinking of something for this one. This is a page from our family album with photos of some of my cousins when they were babies.

Your sky
Our neighbours are having their conifer hedge cut back and we can now see a whole lot more sky!
In this photo there are half a dozen on the left hand side that haven't been touched yet.   If you imagine that they were that tall all the way to the other side, you can see what a difference it's made.    Some of them have had 60 feet cut off!   When it's completely finished there will just be the stumps along the bottom which seem really short in the photo but they're about eight feet high

Colour

Your shoes
My walking boots are the footwear I wear most often and here is an action shot going over a stile

And if you didn't know what the close up was of  -
They say if you see a hedgehog in the daytime it's probably not well, but I couldn't do anything with it because I saw it whilst out walking.  It did look ok though.

September 2014 Photo Scavenger Hunt

Thanks to Greenthumb for organising the photo scavenger hunt again this month.  You can see more entries over at Made With Love.

Hat
I hadn't got a photo for this, and then I saw this tin 'hat' on my husband's scrap pile

In the mirror
I thought there was a large snail in the corner of the car wing mirror and was going to pull it off when I noticed it had legs!    Can you imagine if I had touched it and then found out it was a massive spider?   No matter where in the world you are, you would have heard my screams!
Here it is after I'd coaxed it out with a very long twig....

Going ape

At the beginning of the week I went to Go Ape at Buxton with my daughter.  For anyone who hasn't heard of it, it's a tree top adventure where you cross from tree to tree by different methods, go down zip wires and swing into cargo nets.   We've been to the one at Sherwood Forest before, so knew what to expect, although all the courses around the country are different.
You're kitted out with a harness and have a full safety briefing before you're sent off on your own.

Here's my daughter on a few of the crossings

This stirrups one was slow going because with them being on long ropes, as soon as you put your foot in one it sent it away and you did the splits!  It was very tiring trying to hold the ropes as close to your body as possible to minimise that, although you got the knack eventually.

Some of them like this next one, you're supposed to do without holding on to anything, which is pretty scary because they wobble about quite a bit

I managed to land on my feet at the end of all the zip wires, except the last one where I came in backwards and got pockets full of bark chippings!

I can highly recommend it, and the one at Buxton is only a 20 minute walk from the train station so very handy.

August 2014 Photo Scavenger Hunt

I found this month's list really difficult and have ended up taking the last five this morning!

W is for?
Well Worn Wall

5pm
Train arriving at New Mills station

Everyday
I looked at this so many times on the list, and each time I started singing - "Everyday it's a getting closer, going faster than a rollercoaster", that all I could think of for this was rollercoaster!  Unfortunately I didn't come across one, so I've resorted to taking a pic of an old LP with Buddy Holly on (he's not actually singing that song on it, but hey ho)

Centred

Peace

Ball
This is an action shot of a juggling ball.  You wouldn't believe how many photos I took with no ball in the picture at all!

Luggage
I've been on loads of trains this month so I though this would be an easy one.   Not so, and my last opportunity yesterday was on a train where all the seats were facing the luggage rack.   This was taken as I was getting off, with my camera held by my side so no one would notice!   Not bad under the circumstances...

Under
